Ishaan Jhaveri is a Video Journalist on the New York Times’ Visual Investigations (VI) team. He has a background in Computer Science and brings computational methods like satellite imagery analysis, social media network analysis, data scraping, and computer vision techniques (extracting frames in a video that show soldiers, for example) to his work on the VI team. He played a central role in the Times' recent investigation into Israel’s use of highly destructive 2,000 pound bombs in populated areas in Gaza, including areas it had designated as safe for civilians which won the Polk, NPPA and OPC awards. He grew up in Mumbai, India. Outside of journalism he's an avid birder and wildlife photographer and loves cricket!
