Transportation from Bay Area Airports

Consider flying into Oakland rather than San Francisco. The Oakland International Airport (OAK) is smaller and easier to manage than San Francisco International (SFO) and it is closer to Berkeley.

The simplest but most expensive way to travel from the Oakland International Airport to Berkeley is by taxi, Uber or Lyft, which will cost approximately $30-50, depending on traffic. Mass transit is less expensive. You can take BART from the Oakland International Airport to the Coliseum BART station, then board a Richmond-bound train and get off at the Downtown Berkeley BART station. Uber

If you have a smartphone, you can download the Uber app for private or shared car service. A car for one costs approximately $60-90 from SFO to Berkeley, $30-40 from OAK to Berkeley, and less if you pool with another rider (depending on traffic).

Lyft

If you have a smartphone, you can download the Lyft car service app. A car for one costs approximately $60-90 from SFO to Berkeley, $30-40 from OAK to Berkeley, and less if you pool with another rider (depending on traffic).

San Francisco Airport (SFO) to Berkeley

If you arrive at the San Francisco International Airport, the least expensive means of transportation to Berkeley is mass transit. For domestic flights, take the Red AirTrain line to the SFO BART station. From the station, you can board a Richmond-bound train to the Downtown Berkeley station. If you arrive in the evening, you must take the Antioch train instead, then transfer at the 19th St./Oakland BART station to a Richmond-bound train and exit at the Downtown Berkeley station. For detailed information about public transportation, visit the Bay Area Transit Information website.

Airport Shuttles

If you have a lot of luggage, you might prefer to take a door-to-door shuttle van, such as BayPorter Express, which will pick you up at the airport and drop you off wherever you want in Berkeley. For more information about airport transportation costs, see the chart or visit the airport websites.

Parking

Parking on the UC Berkeley campus is challenging. Street parking at meters is free after 6 p.m. In non-metered areas, parking is free for two hours and unregulated after 7 p.m. Meters are free with a California disabled placard.
