Oakland International (OAK) and San Francisco International (SFO) airports are the closest to the UC Berkeley campus. We recommend flying to OAK, which is closer to Berkeley.

The simplest but most expensive way to travel to Berkeley from either airport is by taxi, Uber or Lyft. Please see below for more affordable transportation options.

Public Transportation from Oakland International Airport (OAK) to Berkeley

Bay Area Rapid Transit provides regular service between OAK and Downtown Berkeley. Take the BART airport connector, located across the street from the terminals,  to the Coliseum BART station, then transfer to a Richmond-bound train. Get off at the Downtown Berkeley BART station. For more information on how to plan a BART  trip from the airport, click here.

Public Transportation from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Berkeley

For domestic flights, take the AirTrain to the SFO BART station. From the station, board a Richmond-bound train to the Downtown Berkeley station. During evening hours, take the Antioch-bound train, then transfer at the 19th St./Oakland BART station to a Richmond-bound train and exit at the Downtown Berkeley station. For detailed information about public transportation, visit the Bay Area Rapid Transit website.
