Sisi Wei

Sisi Wei is the Chief Impact Officer at CalMatters and The Markup, where she pioneers innovative strategies to equip readers, serve communities, and drive meaningful real-world change through journalism. Previously, Sisi served as Editor-in-Chief of The Markup. Under her tenure, the organization challenged technology to serve the public good and its journalism led to transformative impact. Previously, Sisi was co-executive director of OpenNews and assistant managing editor at ProPublica. At ProPublica, she directed interdisciplinary investigations, including one that earned the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2020. In 2024, Sisi was honored with the Freedom of the Press Rising Star Award. She also received the Gwen Ifill Award from IWFM in 2021 for her exceptional contributions to journalism.
