Girish is an AI engineer and researcher with a background in investigative journalism. He spent nearly a decade reporting from Venezuela—where he lived during the worst of its humanitarian crisis—and across the Americas and Middle East for Reuters, where he was a Senior Correspondent, as well as the New York Times, New Yorker, and many others. He now conducts research into AI interpretability while leading engineering at Riley, a venture-backed startup. Over the years, he has built numerous tools for journalists and researchers, and he now runs the AI for Investigation blog. He holds a Master’s in Physics, which he studied in Cambridge and Manchester, and has recently taken graduate courses in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Natural Language Understanding at Stanford.
