Garrett Therolf is a senior reporter and contributing editor at UC Berkeley’s Investigative Reporting Program. His work has appeared in The Atlantic, The Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times. He was the lead reporter and a producer of The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez, the six-part Netflix docuseries that spent several weeks atop the platform’s most-watched list.

Previously, he spent a decade as a staff writer at The Los Angeles Times, where he focused on the foster care system. His reporting also took him to Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein and to Egypt during the Arab Spring. He began his career at the St. Petersburg Times (now the Tampa Bay Times), The Tampa Tribune, The Morning Callin Allentown, Pa., and the Associated Press.

He holds a degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and lives in Berkeley with his partner, Diego, and their Great Dane, Roma.
