Garrett Shanley

Garrett has worked at The Independent Florida Alligator, the University of Florida’s student newspaper, where he covered administration and edited the university desk. His reporting on former UF President Ben Sasse’s led to the state government to launch an audit into Sasse’s office. He was also a breaking news reporter for WUFT News, north-central Florida’s PBS/NPR affiliate, and interned for The Chronicle of Higher Education last fall.

A South Florida native, he became a reporter because his mother taught him how to get lost in a piece of writing and be stubbornly snoopy. When he’s not poring through public records, Garrett can be found watching old movies and talking to his houseplants.
