Ryan Van Velzer

Ryan Van Velzer has reported on hurricanes, floods, ice storms, heat waves, and tornadoes; interviewed governors, and anarchists; covered protests and mass shootings; flown in hot air balloons and trekked through jungles to track down stories.

Van Velzer graduated with a degree from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. He has worked for The Arizona Republic, The Associated Press, The South Florida Sun Sentinel and as a travel reporter in Central America and Southeast Asia.

He now serves as the managing editor of Kentucky Public Radio and the Appalachia + Mid-South Newsroom.
