Aarya has worked as a reporter and Head News Editor at the Daily Cal. He broke the nationwide reversal of Visa terminations and UC Berkeley’s disclosure of 160 names to the federal government. Last summer, Aarya was detained twice by SFPD while reporting on anti-ICE protests, prompting backlash from press freedom advocates.
His work has been cited by the NYT, Forbes, and the SF Chronicle. He has been featured on PBS NewsHour and KQED. He recently received SPJ NorCal’s 2025 Breaking News Award.
